Key State Issues That Illinois Must Address

Illinois faces a range of critical challenges, and addressing these issues in Illinois is essential for the well-being and prosperity of its residents. State Representative Tom Weber is committed to tackling the key issues facing Illinois today. His priorities and vision focus on creating a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future for all residents of the 64th District.

State Representative Tom Weber’s Priorities and Vision

Victims’ Rights: A Champion for Justice

State Representative Tom Weber firmly believes that victims’ rights must be prioritized in Illinois. He understands the pain and hardship victims and their families face, and he is dedicated to ensuring they receive the respect, support, and justice they deserve. Tom supports policies that strengthen protections for victims, enhance access to resources, and hold offenders accountable. His commitment extends to all victims—whether from violent crimes, addiction-related issues, or other challenges—working tirelessly to create a safer and more just environment for everyone in Illinois.

Property Taxes and Affordability: Fighting for Financial Relief

Illinois taxpayers are perpetually burdened by new taxes as the state continues to spend beyond its means. Meanwhile, families and those living on a fixed income are hit with ever-increasing property taxes. Tom demands fiscal discipline: he insists that all new legislation include dedicated funding sources, and champions having more transparency and oversight to set a standard for responsible spending. We owe it to taxpayers to be responsible stewards of their money. He has also championed the Taxpayer Protection Act to institute increased protections for property taxpayers. On the Lake County Forest Preserve Board, Tom’s leadership resulted in a $1.3 million surplus being returned to taxpayers, reducing the forest preserve levy for two years. As State Representative, he will continue fighting to curb out-of-control spending, balance budgets, and lower taxes.

Promoting Job Creation & Small Business Growth: Keeping Illinois Competitive

It’s no surprise that people are leaving Illinois when jobs disappear and taxes skyrocket. With many high school graduates seeking affordable education and employment elsewhere, Illinois risks a shrinking workforce. Tom believes retaining residents starts with securing good-paying jobs. Beyond reforming workers’ compensation, he pushes for a proactive approach to attract businesses and foster small business growth—the lifeblood of District 64’s economy. Tom’s plan includes listening to employers’ needs and removing barriers so that Illinois becomes a top choice for companies large and small.

Supporting Our Law Enforcement and Safe Communities

State Representative Tom Weber stands firmly behind law enforcement and public safety efforts. He supports the men and women who protect our neighborhoods, has sponsored multiple bills to repeal/reform the so-called “SAFE-T” Act and is committed to policies that ensure safe communities for families across the district.

Protecting Our Natural Treasures: Chain of Lakes & Fox River

District 64’s most valuable asset, the Chain of Lakes and the Fox River, generates approximately $150 million annually through tourism. Thousands of visitors enjoy this natural beauty while supporting local businesses. With over 15 lakes linked by 480 miles of shoreline and the Fox River stretching 30 miles from the Wisconsin border, these water resources require ongoing care. Tom is committed to partnering with local governments and stakeholders to safeguard and preserve these vital natural treasures for future generations.

Restoring Fiscal Sanity in Springfield & Ending Unfunded Mandates

Tom has aggressively fought, and will continue fighting, to prevent Springfield from imposing costly unfunded mandates on local governments. When the state passes legislation without funding, it forces schools, villages, and other local bodies to pay the price, which often means property tax increases. Tom is committed to ending this practice, protecting local taxpayers from unfair financial burdens.

Supporting Our Second Amendment Rights: Protecting Legal Firearm Owners

State Representative Tom Weber is a steadfast defender of the Second Amendment. He believes in protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens to responsibly own and carry firearms. Tom opposes unnecessary restrictions that infringe on these constitutional freedoms and supports policies that ensure safety without compromising individual rights. State Representative Tom Weber’s approach blends independent thinking, fiscal responsibility, and unwavering support for our community’s safety and prosperity. He is dedicated to making Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
